ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"I wrote Looking for God at a particularly dark point in my life. I was new to LA, completely alone, and fighting my fair share of demons. At the time, I remember feeling like a bird trapped in a glass house; constantly searching for a way out but slamming into false exits every time. They say that we look for love in all the wrong places; I was looking for something deeper: absolution, meaning, salvation. I found myself playing with fire to prove that I was alive, searching for goodness in the darkest of places, going to extremes to just see if anything was out there to save me. I was desperate for answers, I was looking for God.

Teaming up with 14 & B to create the video for Looking for God has been an incredible process, and if I’m being honest, was uncanny timing. I’d had some experiences in the music industry which really broke my heart, and was really hesitant to start over – again. I’ve heard it from other artists and I really felt it too – that moment right before I gave up was where the magic happened.

I wanted to use the video for Looking for God as a platform to talk about addiction, and specifically how it wrecks havoc on the addict’s sense of self. I think we often romanticize drugs and alcohol, when in reality addiction is a very lonely and isolating disease. In the video, an addict is pushed over the edge after a potential romance is soured by drugs."
